Muscular Strength and Death

It was famous strength coach Mark Rippetoe who said, "Strong people are harder to kill."  I get a good kick out of that humor but funny enough Rip may have been on to something.

We all know that resistance training is great for bone density, fat loss, yada yada... but Coach Rip, may have been right in that regard.

In fact, a study in BMJ supports Coach Rip candidly

"Muscular Strength was significantly and inversely associated with risk of death from all causes and cancer after controlling for potential confounders, including cardiorespiratory fitness. [1] "

The findings in this study confirm previous thoughts in the field, but the data is spectacular, and wth cancer rates so high in this country we should be encouraging prevantitive measures such as resistance training and aerobic training.
